The training shall include suitable and sufficient instruction in the following matters in relation to each class or type of abrasive wheel in respect of which it is proposed to appoint the person being trained: proper methods relating to the mounting of abrasive wheels; hazards arising from the use of abrasive wheels and precautions which should be observed; methods of marking abrasive wheels as to type and speed; methods of storing, handling and transporting abrasive wheels; methods of inspecting and testing abrasive wheels to check for damage; the functions of all components used with abrasive wheels, including flanges, washers, bushes and nuts used in mounting, and knowledge of the correct and incorrect methods of assembling all components and of correct balancing of abrasive wheels;.
Since the causes of many grinding wheel breakages can be traced back to improper storage and handling, this section focuses on how to handle and store grinding wheels. Included in this section is information related to the shelf life of a grinding wheel.
On may 16 2019 how to safely mount grinding wheels used in sets we receive calls from our customers asking us if they can mount several wheels onto a single arbor in sets. What are the rules for mounting several wheels onto a spindle? what may happen if the correct procedures are not followed? we have been asked, “in applications with multiple wheels mounted on a single spindle without spacers, can we mix and match grinding wheels from different sets, different abrasive manufactures, different batches, etc.
Guidance subsequent to the repeal of the abrasive wheels regulations 1970 (encompassing relevant puwer 1998 issues and any conflicts with draft european standards). In addition to looking at essential training needs, the guide also focuses on details such as: wheel characteristics; safety in grinding machine operations; wheel mounting procedures and issues; guards; extra considerations for portable or hand-held grinders; and protective equipment requirements.
This training course is a legal requirement for all those who are involved in the selection, storage, mounting, dressing and use of wheels in accordance with the requirements of abrasive wheels safety in industry regulations.
